Board of Education to Meet Wednesday, May 29

SDOW LogoThe School District of Washington’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday, May 29, at the district office at 7 p.m.

Among the items on the agenda are:

*Assets and Sustainability Committee Update: The Assets and Sustainability Committee of the Board met on Wednesday, May 22. Lorenzo Boyd from Stifel, the district’s Financial Advisor, was in attendance to discuss bond financing.

*Upcoming Meetings: The MSBA Leadership Summit will be held June 8-9 in St. Charles. Board members John Freitag, Susan Thatcher, Jason Oesterly, and Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer are registered to attend. Student representative Tristan Zeh will be participating in one of the breakout sessions, as part of the Student Advisor Panel. The student advisors will have the opportunity to share information about their school's selection process, their role, and what they have learned about governance.

The MSBA Fall Conference will be held September 26-29 at Tan-Tar-A. This conference brings board members and superintendents together from all over the state for a weekend of learning and networking.

*Student Representative Report: Tristan Zeh, Student Representative, will share a report with the Board of Education on activities and events at the high school.

*Salary Schedules: The Salary and Benefit Committee held the final meeting on May 22. The committee reviewed the salary schedules, budget projections, and health insurance plans. Scott Schroepfer from Schroepfer Bauer was also in attendance to present health insurance information as it relates to loss ratios and renewal costs. (Health Insurance renewal information will be presented as we get closer to our new plan year, or this summer as the information becomes available.)

The Board will be provided the 2019-20 proposed teacher salary schedule. The teacher salary schedule reflects an additional $400 added to the base salary, along with the subsequent adjustments to the schedule as a result. These adjustments are within our budgetary goals, and reflect our desire to be competitive.

*Bond Resolution: A bond purchase resolution authorizing Stifel, Nicolaus & Company to purchase bonds to be issued by the School District of Washington per passage of the April 2, 2019, bond issue requires board approval.

*Investment Management: District Policy DFA-2 - Revenues from Investments/Use of Surplus Funds, provides details for District investments. Robin Kluesner contacted Missouri Schools Investment Program (MOSIP) and local banks for their proposals for investment of bond proceeds. Information will be uploaded as it's received.

*PLTW Computer Science Build Out: Information on the approved program for FY20, PLTW - Computer Science Essentials, and a spreadsheet listing the costs associated with this course.

*Augusta Elementary Playground: Information will be shared on the status of the Augusta Playground.
