Ingrid FigasWashington High School senior Ingrid Figas is the school’s recipient of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete for the 2021-22 school year.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete program honors one student from every area school, a requirement being that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom.

The Scholar Athlete Program was the brainchild of Hall of Fame Baseball Writer Bob Broeg in 1965. Broeg wanted to honor high school seniors whose success was not only on the field, but students who excelled in the classroom as well.

The recipients have lettered in at least one varsity sport, are in the top 25 percent of their graduating class and are in good standing at their respective high schools.

Ingrid, who holds a 4.0 grade-point average, is the daughter of Mitch and Molly Figas. She’s a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Leadership, and the WHS volleyball, basketball and track and field teams. She earned all-state honors in the hurdles as a junior during last year’s track season.

Following graduation, Ingrid plans to attend the University of Missouri and study pediatric occupational or speech therapy.
