WHS Scholar Bowl The B, C, and D teams of the Washington High School Scholar Bowl squad represented themselves well at two different tournaments over the past two weeks.

On January 14, the B team competed against 47 other teams at North Point.

The prelims were seeded into eight groups of six. WHS posted wins over Orchard Farm A, Sullivan C, Warrenton, Winfield and Ft. Zumwalt North B to win their group and move to the playoffs.

In the playoffs, WHS beat Jefferson City 420-160, then Parkway South B 435-150, and then finally outlasted Priory 395-220 to win their playoff group and guarantee a top four finish.

In the super playoffs, WHS ran into a buzz saw of a player in Mexico, but bounced back to beat Lindbergh B. A loss to Parkway West A meant that the B team managed to take third overall of 48 teams.

Team members were Hayden Ley, Nathan Oreskovic, Aidan Van Leer and Alina Hayden.

On January 21, the C and D teams competed at Lindbergh's JV tournament. The field was restricted to students in grades 9 and 10, but allowed for upperclassmen to play if this was their first year of high school scholar bowl.

The 18 teams were seeded into three groups of six teams.

The Washington C team, which played as Washington A, won their bracket with wins over Eldon, Mexico B, Oakville A, Warrenton and Bayless.

The D team, playing as Washington B, went 3-2 in the morning, beating Brentwood, Orchard Farm B, and Westminster. They landed in a three-way tie for second overall in their bracket, but dropped to fourth place in the points scored tiebreaker.

In the playoffs, the B team went 3-1 to finish eighth overall. Team members were Cynthia Bade, Phin Schneider, Peter Bush and Teaguen Riley.

The A team dropped a close game to Clayton, but bounced back to beat Ladue and Mexico A before losing to Parkway West A, finishing third overall. Team members included Bryan Austin, who placed as the top overall individual scorer, Rylie Gammon, Dani Benhardt and Deven Yeary.
