Alina Hayden Composer ProjectWashington High School junior Alina Hayden has been selected as the winner of the choral high school category for the University of Missouri’s Composer Project.

Hayden composed a piece titled, “Blue Marble,” which was performed on Sunday, March 10, by the Columbia Civic Chamber Choir. The piece is about a love letter for space travel.

Hayden’s recognition will be printed in the booklets available at the concert and she will receive a $500 check.

“We are so incredibly proud of Alina for being an inspiration to our music department,” said WHS Choir Director Jessie Patterson.

“My Inspiration came from what I learned in choir and orchestra,” Hayden said. “My first idea came from the first moon landing, Apollo 11. However, the piece changed into a love letter for space travel.”

The piece was created for Mizzou’s Missouri Composers Project, MOCOP. It is a contest that scouts for composers in the state of Missouri.
