Six WHS Choir Members Selected All-District; Owen Van Leer Named All-State
Washington High School had six All-District Choir members who made the trip to Farmington High School on Saturday, November 16, for All-District Rehearsal and All-State auditions.
Representing WHS were Olivia Strubberg, Alina Hayden, Andrew Dawson, Anna Snider, Brooke Opfer and Owen Van Leer.
“Our All-District members put on a spectacular concert,” said Washington High School Choir Director Jessie Katz. “Each of them worked so hard to audition for the All-State choir and represented WHS with great pride.”
Owen Van Leer, a junior at Washington High School, was selected for the Missouri All-State Choir. He was one of only four tenor members to be selected and will represent the School District of Washington in January at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference in Tan-Tar-A, where he will join the best singers from across the state.
Alina Hayden, a senior, was named All-State Honorable Mention and scored in the top 10 of the alto section.
Hayden and VanLeer will sing at the MCDA State Festival Choir this July in Springfield.
“Alina and Owen both have worked extremely hard to achieve this high honor,” Katz said. “Our department could not be prouder of them.”
