Augusta/Marthasville Choir Performs at Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop
The Augusta Elementary and Marthasville Elementary Choir was selected to perform at the 87th Annual Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) In-Service Workshop/Conference. The performance took place on Wednesday, January 29, at Lake of the Ozark’s Tan-Tar-A Resort.
Augusta/Marthasville was one of three elementary choirs that were selected from across the state as part of the 32 band, choir, and orchestra ensembles at the conference, which was made up of hundreds of music educators from across the state.
“Our selection is a testament to the unwavering support of our School District of Washington administration team, Augusta/Marthasville communities, and our hard working students,” said Augusta/Marthasville Choir Instructor Jon Logan. “We are so blessed with such amazing talent in our district. I am so proud of the work our singers put in.”
The Augusta/Marthasville Blue Jay Choir is a non-auditioned group of fourth, fifth and sixth grade singers from Augusta Elementary and Marthasville Elementary. Each school meets twice per month and the combined choir meets once per month.
Since its beginning three years ago, the Blue Jay Choir has performed throughout the community and the Washington area.
The hard work by the choir students paid off with their performance.
Students in the Augusta/Marthasville Choir are Aubree Blanton, Lorelei Evans, Sadie Figura, Emery Hackett, Easton Hackett, Cormac Harmon, Paige Hedrick, Lillian Heide, Adelen Henderson, Adela Kehner, Ryan Kellum, Bella Konefal, Clair Kyle, Jackson Liermann, Izzy Matteoni, Madison Meyer, Basil Miller, Oliver Minard, Krista Morgan, Addison Owenby, Conner Pulley, Gabriel Schmelz, Lennox Schulte, Leah Tegeler, Amelia Timpe, Josie Warnecke, Adelina Weiler, Logan Wheeler and Adalyn Wright.
“Having so many snow days, in addition to winter break, I was worried we would not be able to pull it off, but these kids came through,” Logan said. “This was truly a magical performance as each singer put their heart and soul into it. The energy in the room that day was absolutely electric and I think the audience was very moved by the performance. People were talking about the performance the entire week of the conference as it was truly a highlight of the conference.
“We also were able to feature each of our School District of Washington elementary and high school music faculty on our concert playing instrument accompaniment. Another highlight of our concert was the song Rain (Boldly in the Pretend) from Bluey. We had this piece specially arranged for our choir and our January 29 concert was the world premiere of this piece. It was an honor to be selected as one of only three elementary choirs in the state to performance at MMEA. This is something I hope our singers will be able to remember fondly for the rest of their lives. “
