School District of Washington eLearning Guidelines
Please see the information below regarding potential eLearning days and should you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher. Teachers will also be sending information out specific to their classroom. There are no make-up days.
After six missed days, eLearning Days will begin. Make sure your student brings home their Chromebook if there’s potential for winter weather.
If students are unable to participate in eLearning due to connectivity issues, students and/or parents need to inform the teacher. Alternate learning activities will be provided for students with limited internet options. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Your child’s teacher will have information regarding classroom specifics.
An overview of what to expect in the event we have to close school beyond Day 6:
Inclement Weather Days 1-6: Traditional inclement weather days; no make-up days are required.
eLearning Days 7-10: Teachers will provide work to students via Google Classroom. This may also include videos to support ongoing learning and reinforce skills currently being taught in the classroom. Teachers will provide a two-hour “office time” from 9-11 a.m. via a Zoom link for students to connect with them to answer any questions or provide assistance on assignments. This is not a specific instruction time, rather a time to connect and answer questions about the posted work. Teachers will be sure that students are able to get into Google Classroom, navigate and submit work using this platform and know where to find the Zoom link for office hours. Students with an IEP will receive services on these days as outlined on Form G of the IEP document.
eLearning PLUS Days 11+: Teachers will run a full virtual school day schedule with their students. Google Classroom will again be the platform that will house the schedule for the day, the Zoom link for direct instruction time, and work to be completed and submitted. Teachers will connect with students and continue instruction during the student's regularly scheduled day. One major difference for these eLearning days is that teaching and learning will be forward moving and will likely include new concepts being introduced. For elementary students, special class scheduled on this day will also take place virtually with the specials teacher. Lunch and/or recess times will remain as virtual breaks for the student. Students who do not attend eLearning days will be marked absent in attendance. Students with an IEP will receive services on these days as outlined on Form G of the IEP document..
Why are we providing instruction on missed days beyond 6? The current SDOW calendar accounts for Days 1-6 to be traditional inclement weather days. In order to support continued learning and keep students on track for learning progression and grade-level advancement, if we are out of school for more than six days, teachers will connect with students via Google Classroom and Zoom. All eLearning and eLearning PLUS days will be about educational skill reinforcement and/or advancement and will not be "busy" work for students.
Additional eLearning Details: ELearning days are designed to ensure continuity of education when in-person learning is disrupted, helping students stay on track with their academic goals. These days are structured with flexibility in mind, recognizing the unique challenges families face during inclement weather or unexpected closures.
During eLearning days, teachers will be available to provide support and answer questions, ensuring students and families feel connected and supported. Families will receive clear, advanced communication regarding expectations for both short-term, eLearning Days 7-10 and long-term eLearning PLUS Days 11+.
