Fifth- and Sixth-Grade Students Compete in Math Madness at Washington High School
Fifth- and sixth-grade students in the School District of Washington participated in a Math Madness competition at Washington High School on Thursday evening, March 13.
Washington High School’s Mu Alpha Theta hosted the math competition in the CJB Theatre. The elementary students divided into small teams, representing their schools, and worked on a series of mathematical problems, equations and solutions.
Points were totaled following each of the five rounds.
There were prizes awarded to the best decorated student table, the top three highest scoring teams in each grade, and a prize for an individual student who could recite the most decimal places of Pi.
Proceeds from the event go toward the Jordan Scheer Children’s Relay for Life.
Chase Carrier from Immanuel recited 136 correct decimal places of Pi.
The winners from Math Madness were as follows:
Sixth Grade
First Place: Immanuel Lutheran - The Crusaders - Chase Carrier, Delani Gharbian, Evan Roewe and Ella Wesselschmidt.
Second Place: Campbellton Elementary - Digit Dunkers – Oliver Close, Landon Scheidegger and Campbell Gus.
Third Place: South Point Elementary – Team Tina – Zana Lamke and Tien Hoang.
Fifth Grade
First Place: Clearview Elementary – Digit Dividers – Owen Schwoeppe, Kavi Ferdowsi, Ada Riegel and Adie Hoberock.
Second Place: Clearview Elementary - Number Ninjas – Caitlin Hotra, Ada Long, Penny Schmitz and Nolan Jasper.
Third Place: Clearview Elementary – The Jaquinites – Hunter Roetheli, Aiden Lehr, Bradley Kuenzel and Colton Fischer.
