Three Washington High School Students Earn Missouri Seal of Biliteracy
Three Washington High School students have earned the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy for the 2024-25 school year. These students have demonstrated proficiency in English, a second language, and sociocultural competency.
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.
The following WHS students have earned the Seal in English and a World Language:
Hazel Hedrick - French
Daniel Hotra - French and German
Ian Vinyard - Spanish
The Seal of Biliteracy opportunity is open to all world language students in the district. Students who are interested in attaining the Seal of Biliteracy should work with their world language teachers.
These students demonstrated their second language skills by completing the AAPPL Exam (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages). The exam includes elements of the four domains of second-language usage: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students who achieve the “Intermediate-Mid (I3)” rating in all four areas, along with demonstrating English proficiency, earn the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy and are eligible for college credit at select universities within Missouri.
