Washington to Compete in Six Events at MSHSAA Class 4 Track and Field Championships
Washington High School qualified in six events for the upcoming MSHSAA Class 4 Track and Field Championships.
The state track and field will take place Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31, at Jefferson City High School.
Washington crowned two sectional champions during the Class 4 sectional meet on Saturday, May 24, at Waynesville High School. The top four finishers in each sectional event qualified for the state meet.
Alyssa Repke, a senior, won the sectional title in the girls discus with a throw of 38.54 meters. She will compete in the discus at the state meet Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Caleb Matchell, a sophomore, won the sectional crown in the boys 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.4. He will compete in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries at the state meet Friday at 11:50 a.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 11:50 a.m.
Steven Broadbent, a junior, qualified for state in both the boys 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run. He finished in third place in both events during the sectional meet in times of 2:00.33 in the 800 and 4:27.14 in the 1,600. Broadbent will compete in both events on Friday at the state meet. The 1,600-meter run is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. The 800-meter run is set for 3:15 p.m.
Jack Henderson, a junior, placed fourth in the boys high jump at the sectional meet with a leap of 1.89 meters. He will compete in the high jump at state Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Washington’s girls 1,600-meter relay team finished in second place at the sectional meet in a time of 4:07.76. Running were seniors Bri James and Izzy Von Behren, junior Josie Keiser and sophomore Kathryn Figas. The girls 1,600-meter relay preliminaries at the state meet will take place Friday at 4:30 p.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 4:50 p.m.
The top eight finishers in each event at the state meet will earn all-state medalist honors.
