Diploma Plus: An Exciting Graduation Honor at Washington High School
Washington High School is introducing a groundbreaking addition to its graduation honors: Diploma Plus. This initiative goes beyond the traditional diploma to recognize students who excel academically, professionally, and personally during their high school journey. Starting with the Class of 2024 and evolving further with Diploma Plus Distinction with the Class of 2027, Diploma Plus is redefining what it means to graduate!
What is Diploma Plus?
Diploma Plus acknowledges students who exceed the standard graduation requirements, showcasing their readiness for college, career, and life in alignment with our District’s Mission. It’s a way to highlight achievements that align with modern educational goals, such as career readiness and community involvement.
The Path to Earning a Diploma Plus
To receive a Diploma Plus, students must demonstrate exceptional effort and achievement in various areas:
- Market Value Assets: Starting with the Class of 2024, students earning a traditional diploma can add a marketable skill or credential to their graduation portfolio. These assets can be attained by achieving:
- Completion of Early College Academy or 3+ AP/Dual Credit courses with a grade of C or better.
- Hands-on experiences like internships, apprenticeships, client-connected projects, or entrepreneurial ventures.
- Industry-recognized credentials from programs at Four Rivers Career Center (FRCC).
Why is Diploma Plus Exciting?
Diploma Plus is a reflection of the evolving needs of today’s world. By integrating academic rigor with real-world experience, Washington High School is preparing students for life beyond the classroom. This distinction sets graduates apart in college applications and the job market, showing that they possess not only knowledge but also practical skills, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
As Washington High School continues to innovate, Diploma Plus stands as a beacon of opportunity for students to thrive and showcase their unique capabilities. It’s more than just a diploma—it’s a celebration of hard work, passion, and future potential.
