Washington High School Softball Competes at Seckman Tournament
Playing at the Seckman Softball Tournament at the Arnold Athletic Association, the Washington High School varsity squad notched a 2-2 record for a fourth-place finish.
The Lady Jays (10-7) went 2-1 in pool play, recording wins of 17-0 over Farmington and 12-1 over Festus on Friday, September 13, followed by a 10-5 loss to St. Dominic on Saturday, September 14.
In the third-place game on Saturday, Washington lost to Union, 6-2.
Leading Washington’s offensive attack so far this season have been junior Maddie Kluesner, sophomore Madisen Meyer and senior Grace Molitor.
Seniors Karolyn Sowrheaver, Abbi Grafrath, Taylor Scheible, Ellie Hopen, Chloe Mueller and Haley Baker also have contributed offensively.
The varsity team has three freshmen who have made immediate impacts; Harper Brown, Macy Wieland and Colsie Lange.
Hopen has been Washington’s No. 1 pitcher so far this season. Brown also has seen time in the circle, along with junior Ryleigh Damschroeder and sophomore Emily Schwoeppe.
Other players on the varsity roster are juniors Riley Elz-Bade and Trista Fleer.
