Members of the Washington High School Band participated in the annual Missouri All-State Band Auditions on Saturday, December 7, at Hickman High School in Columbia.

Over 1,200 students from across the state auditioned for the top concert band, jazz band, and orchestra.

Students selected from Washington High School were:

Junior Nick Smith – 2nd chair Euphonium All-State Concert Band Alternate

Junior Layne Becker – 2nd chair Baritone Saxophone All-State Concert Band Honorable Mention

Senior Shamus Rylee – 4th chair Euphonium All-State Concert Band Honorable Mention.

“To be eligible to audition for the Missouri All-State Band, students must first prepare specific literature and audition for their area District Band,” said WHS Director of Bands Gretchen Pohlman. “Nick, Layne and Shamus have dedicated hours of personal time rigorously preparing for these state auditions. The entire Washington High School band staff and I could not be prouder of these gentlemen for their accomplishments.”
