Washington High School Biomedical Science Students Conduct Hands-On Blood Analysis Lab
Students in Krista Williams' Year 1 Project Lead The Way Biomedical Science class at Washington High School recently participated in an interactive lab designed to simulate routine blood testing.
As part of the hands-on activity, students learned and practiced the techniques involved in drawing blood and performed hematocrit testing to examine the proportion of red blood cells in a given sample. The lab provided an opportunity for students to explore blood composition and understand its role in overall health and diagnosis.
The students will continue their investigation in the coming days by analyzing blood samples under a microscope and completing a simulated Complete Blood Count (CBC) test. The extended lab work will allow students to identify and evaluate various blood components, such as red and white blood cells and platelets, while deepening their understanding of each component’s function in the human body.
The activity is part of the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way Biomedical Science curriculum, which aims to engage students in real-world medical scenarios to build both technical and analytical skills.
