School District of Washington, East Central College Announce Transition of Practical Nursing Program
(Washington, MO) – The School District of Washington and East Central College are proud to announce a joint plan to transition sponsorship of the Washington School of Practical Nursing to East Central College. The transition will officially take effect on August 1, 2026, following the graduation of the final LPN class under SDOW’s direct sponsorship.
For decades, the School District of Washington has proudly prepared Licensed Practical Nurses who serve in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities across the region. The program’s success has been rooted in high expectations, quality instruction, and deep community support.
“WSPN has a rich history of preparing students to meet the needs of our healthcare community,” said Dr. Jennifer Kephart, Superintendent of the School District of Washington. “We are honored to have been part of that history and look forward to ensuring its future through this transition to East Central College. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to student success and to strengthening our community.”
By moving under ECC’s sponsorship, students will have expanded access to financial aid, scholarships, and support services, while the program itself will be strengthened through ECC’s accreditation and healthcare program offerings.
“This transition represents an exciting opportunity to continue the legacy of nursing education in Washington,” said Dr. Jon Bauer, President of East Central College. “We are eager to build upon the program’s strong foundation while expanding resources and opportunities for future nursing students. Together, we will ensure a seamless transition that benefits students, families, and the healthcare workforce.”
The collaboration between SDOW and ECC ensures that the program remains locally based, continuing to provide the healthcare community with highly trained nurses while securing the program’s long-term stability.
