What Is Washington’s Back to School Fair?

Washington’s Back to School Fair is a free event for families residing within the School District of Washington. The fair is designed to provide students with the essential items and support they need to begin the upcoming school year prepared and confident.

Students receive school supplies, a backpack, and new tennis shoes. Families can also receive assistance with back-to-school forms, access optional services through the Health Department, and enjoy a complimentary haircut. The event also includes family-friendly activities and community resources.

The Back to School Fair is entirely free for all participating students and families.  

How Does the Back to School Fair Work?

Families residing within the School District of Washington may register for the Back to School Fair by completing the online registration form. Registration opens during the first week of April. Once registered, families attend the event on the scheduled date.

On the day of the event, families enter the building and proceed through designated stations located throughout the school. They begin with back-to-school forms, followed by optional services such as a visit with the Health Department and a complimentary haircut.

After completing the stations, families move to the gymnasium, where students receive new tennis shoes, school supplies, and a backpack.

Before heading home, families are invited to enjoy a snack, connect with local community agencies, and spend time together with our family fun activities.

Who Benefits from the Back to School Fair?

The Back to School Fair serves students and families who need support gathering and purchasing the essential items required to begin a new school year. This may include tennis shoes, school supplies, haircuts, and other back-to-school necessities.

While any student is eligible to participate, the fair is specifically designed to support families who may need financial assistance with back-to-school expenses.

Our goal is to ensure every student starts the school year feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

How Is the Back to School Fair Funded?

The Back to School Fair is funded entirely through the generosity of community partners, individual donors, local fundraisers, and community grants.

The total cost of the event varies each year based on donations received, but the estimated annual expense ranges from $12,000 to $15,000. These funds provide students with essential back-to-school items, including new tennis shoes, socks, backpacks, and school supplies.

Through the continued support of our community, we are able to ensure students start the school year prepared and confident.

How Can I Support the Back to School Fair?

The Back to School Fair is made possible by the generosity and dedication of our incredible volunteers. There are many meaningful ways to get involved:

• Host a School Supply Drive – Organize a themed drive, such as a notebook or scissors drive.
   
• Host a Fundraiser – Plan a fundraiser to help support the program.
   
• Sponsor a Student – Provide essential back-to-school items for an individual student, including tennis shoes, a backpack, and school supplies.
   
• Make a Financial Donation – Contribute directly to help us serve more students.
   
• Volunteer at the Event – Join us on the day of the fair and assist students as they select their new tennis shoes and supplies.
