Washington High School Jaywalkers Place First in Division 4 Kick at State Dance Championships
The Washington High School Jaywalkers competed at the Missouri State High School Dance Championships on Saturday, February 28, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
The Jaywalkers, coached by Jo Phinney and Tabitha Holtmeyer, were awarded first-place honors in Division 4 Kick.
“The team faced a lot of adversity this season and preserved to have a great season,” Phinney said. “They came together as a team and worked hard throughout the season.”
Senior Jaywalkers are Cecilia Maurer, Emma Page and Jillian Witt. Other members of the team are Celia Dieckhaus, Kensley Guss, Sophia Fitzgerald, Payton Deckard, Quinn Guss and Timothy Kluesner (manager).
The Jaywalkers also have exceled in the classroom to earn academic awards (sophomore-senior eligible). Students with a 4.0 grade-point average and higher are Kensley Guss, Celia Dieckhaus and Sophia Fitzgerald. Students with a 3.79-3.99 grade-point average are Cecilia Maurer and Jillian Witt.
“We’re super proud of our academic awards,” Phinney said.
