Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart to Depart Following 2025-26 School Year
The School District of Washington has announced that Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart will conclude her service to the district at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Kephart, who has led the district for five years, will return to the Kansas City area following the completion of her contract on June 30, 2026.
Kephart has accepted the position of superintendent of Liberty Public Schools, where she will begin her new role on July 1, 2026.
“Serving the School District of Washington has been an incredible privilege,” said Kephart. “These past five years have been filled with meaningful work, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to students. I am proud of what we have accomplished together. My time in the School District of Washington has been incredibly meaningful. Working alongside talented educators, staff, students, and families has been a true privilege.”
During her tenure, Kephart led and supported several key initiatives focused on student success, real-world learning, and long-term planning. These efforts included Connect Washington, student interventions through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Washington SOAR into STEM, Blue Fridays, the district’s Long-Range Facilities Master Plan, and the Blue Jay PRIDE strategic plan.
“Together, we advanced programs that reflect our shared commitment to student success and preparing learners for life beyond the classroom,” Kephart said.
Kephart emphasized her continued dedication to the district’s priorities.
“I remain fully committed to the bond and the important work ahead for the district,” she said. “Between now and the end of my tenure, my focus will continue to be on supporting our students, staff, and community and ensuring we move forward together. I remain fully committed to finishing this work well for our students, staff, and community.”
Reflecting on her experience in Washington, Kephart added, “The strength of Washington comes from its people - dedicated teachers, supportive staff, and students who inspire every day. What makes this district truly special is our caring community, which is a unique and valued partner in the work of our schools. The relationships I have built here will stay with me long after I leave. My husband and I have loved being part of this community and deeply appreciate the welcoming care we’ve received.”
While looking ahead to her next chapter, Kephart expressed confidence in the district’s future.
“While I am excited for the next chapter in my career, I leave knowing the School District of Washington is in a strong position for continued growth and success,” she said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served this community.”
The Board of Education will begin the process of identifying the district’s next superintendent in the coming months. Kephart will continue to serve in her role through the end of the school year to ensure continuity and a smooth leadership transition.
