Washington High School Choir Earns Top Honors at State Festival
The Washington High School Choir Department is celebrating an outstanding performance at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Choir State Festival, where multiple ensembles earned top honors.
The Concert Choir received a perfect score along with a perfect judges’ sheet, earning an Exemplary rating - the highest possible distinction at the state level. The achievement marks the second consecutive year the group has earned a perfect score at State.
Concert Choir students are Steven Banderman, Jacob Donahue, Augustin McAfoos, Andrew Dawson, Sophia Fitzgerald, Morgan Koch, Brooke Opfer, Leila Scarborough, Anna Snider, Morgan Straatmann and Owen Van Leer.
Washington’s Meistersingers women’s choir also delivered an exceptional performance, earning an Exemplary rating and finishing just one point behind the Concert Choir. Their performance featured a powerful message centered on mental health and the impact of words.
Meistersingers students are Miah Guerrero, Maddie Hamlyn, Hazel Hedrick, Melissa Holtmeyer, Leila Jerray, Emmaline Malan, Brooke Opfer, Savannah Pilarski, Anna Strubberg and Elise Temme.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, commitment, and passion of all our singers,” said WHS Choir Director Jessie Katz. “They represented our program with excellence and professionalism, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
In addition, Savannah Pilarski was recognized as an outstanding soloist on one of the judges’ sheets, an honor that highlights her exceptional talent and musical expression.
The results showcase the continued excellence of the Washington High School choir program and the dedication of its students and staff.
