Early Learning Center Nurse Jennifer Johnson Receives Blue Jay Pride Award
Jennifer Johnson, nurse at the Early Learning Center, is the April recipient of the Blue Jay Pride Award.
The Blue Jay Pride Award was introduced to recognize and showcase quality School District of Washington staff and the focus on the District’s core beliefs. Through peer nomination, individuals are able to acknowledge exceptional staff who positively impact the schools, district and community.
The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and a gift card.
Johnson’s nomination form stated the following:
“Nurse Jen truly goes above and beyond her role at the Early Learning Center. While she carries the title of school nurse, her impact reaches far beyond medical care. She wears many hats each and every day. She is a compassionate listening ear for both our kiddos and adults, offering comfort, reassurance, and calm during big feelings and tough moments. She steps in as our librarian, backup secretary, and even principal when needed, always willing to help wherever there is a gap.
“Nurse Jen is also a steady, supportive presence in classrooms. She lends a helping hand during busy times, supports students who need a safe space or a break, and works collaboratively with staff to ensure every child’s needs are met. In a building like ours, where so many students require extra patience and understanding, her flexibility and heart make a tremendous difference.
“Last year, Nurse Jen was awarded a WINGS grant, which she used to create a library for our early learners. This initiative has expanded access to books and literacy opportunities for our students, fostering a love of reading and enriching our school environment. It was not just a project - it was an investment in our children and their futures.
“The love, passion, and positivity Nurse Jen brings to her work radiates throughout our building. She consistently creates meaningful, supportive experiences for students, families, and staff. Our Early Learning Center is stronger because of her dedication, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our team.”
Johnson was presented the Blue Jay Pride Award traveling plaque by SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. She also received a gift bag from the Bank of Washington, represented by Melissa Buel, Cathy Weber and Jamie Holtmeier.
