Katelyn Huber Named SDOW Business Connection Coordinator
Katelyn Huber has been hired as Business Connection Coordinator for the School District of Washington.
In this role, Huber will serve the School District of Washington and its sending districts as the primary liaison with business and industry employers. The work includes connecting business partners with staff and students through a variety of ways.
“I’m honored to be able to follow in the footsteps of Cynthia Walker, who started the apprenticeship program, and Jeanne Miller Wood, who grew it to what it is today. I can’t wait to get to work building on their solid foundation,” Huber said. "It's an exciting opportunity to further the mission of the School District of Washington by building robust connections between local businesses and our schools, ensuring our students gain meaningful insights and skills.”
Huber has been with the School District of Washington for five years. She previously worked as the CAPS Business instructor at Four Rivers Career Center for one year and a marketing teacher at Washington High School for four years. Prior to her time with the SDOW, Huber worked as a multi-media sales consultant for Missourian Publishing for three years.
A 2010 graduate of Washington High School, Huber owns a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Missouri State University, a teaching certificate from Central Methodist University and Master of Business Administration from Northwest Missouri State University.
The scope of the Business Connection Coordinator includes work as it relates to Connect Washington, the district’s advisory group footprint, and coordinating the apprenticeship programming for students.
“We are excited to have Katelyn Huber as our new Business Connection Coordinator,” said School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. “Katelyn brings a wealth of experience from her career in business marketing, alongside her role as a dedicated CAPS Business teacher and Washington native. Her deep community ties and professional background will greatly enhance our Connect Washington efforts to engage local businesses with our schools. Her role is crucial in creating valuable opportunities for our students, and we are excited to see the positive impact she will make.”
The work entails coordinating discussions and presentations to employers, organizations, industry associations, and government officials at the state and local level regarding the benefits of the program and to advance the district vision, mission and goals.
“My RIASEC code, SEC (Social, Emotional, and Conventional) lends well to this position. It’s absolutely the perfect fit for me,” Huber said. “I am excited to get into every elementary and secondary building to talk Connect Washington ideas with our teachers and administrators.”
People can find their RIASEC code by taking the short inventory found here.
“We hear every day from our industry partners that their workforce needs help developing skills like effective communication, conflict resolution, and critical thinking,” Huber said. “My goal as Business Connection Coordinator is to continue building mutually beneficial partnerships between our classrooms and surrounding industries to equip our students with the essential skills needed to be successful in their careers and in life.
“Additional goals are to continue to build business partnerships and apprentices and to get into every school building at the beginning of the year to workshop ideas with teachers on how they can successfully implement the program in their classroom with my support. Long term goals are to build an alumni network and mentor program.”
Katelyn and her husband, Bart Huber, have two children William (4) and Nora (3).
