The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and a gift card.
Deckelman will retire following the 2024-25 school year after working for 26 years in the SDOW, 20 years as activities director. His nomination form stated the following:
“As we draw closer to the end of the school year, we celebrate someone who has been the heart and soul of Washington High School’s activities for the past 20 years – Bill Deckelman. It’s hard to imagine Washington High School without his dedication, energy, and passion for making every event, club, and program the best it could be.
“From organizing unforgettable events to being a mentor and role model for countless staff members and students, Bill has left a lasting mark on this school district and in all of our hearts. His commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive school community has shaped the experiences of so many. While we are sad to see him go, we are also incredibly grateful for everything he has done. Bill will be deeply missed. His legacy will live on in the traditions and spirit he helped build.
“Bill has always supported and helped coaches and fellow staff members in every way possible. Ultimately, it was the students that he cared about the most. It was never about him. It was always about the students. He had their best interests at heart.
“On behalf of the entire School District of Washington community, thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and most of all, your unwavering support of our students. We wish you all the best in your retirement and your next chapter.”
