Three Washington High School Students Selected for SWACDA Regional Choir
The Washington High School Choral Department has announced that three students have been selected to perform in the Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) Regional Choir.
Selected were seniors Anna Snider, Owen Van Leer and Andrew Dawson. They will represent Washington High School and the School District of Washington this March in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The achievement comes after a rigorous audition process, where over 1,000 singers competed for a spot in the choir from seven different states. The region includes Missouri, Colorado, Arkansas, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma.
The audition process demanded exceptional skill and talent from the participants. It was highly competitive, requiring each student to demonstrate both technical and expressive skill. To qualify, singers were asked to perform two scales, sing a prepared section from a designated choral piece, and perform a one-minute solo selection of their choice.
“These students have worked incredibly hard to refine their craft and challenge themselves musically,” said WHS Director of Choirs Jessie Katz. “Their selection to this elite regional choir is a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and love of music. We couldn’t be prouder of them for representing Washington High School and the School District of Washington on such a prestigious stage.”
The Southwest American Choral Directors Association Regional Choir brings together the most talented young singers from across seven states to perform under the direction of nationally recognized conductors. Participation in this ensemble offers students an opportunity to collaborate with other accomplished musicians, grow artistically, and represent their schools at a regional level.
