Marthasville Elementary Counselor Robyn Busekrus Named SDOW, WINGS Teacher of the Year
Robyn Busekrus, counselor at Marthasville Elementary, has been named the School District of Washington and WINGS Teacher of the Year.
WINGS recognizes a teacher of the year from the School District of Washington each year. The recipient receives a check for $1,000.
Busekrus has been in education for 25 years. She’s been with the School District of Washington for 13 years.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this award,” Busekrus said. “Each day is a joy for me to serve our students and families.”
Busekrus is now eligible for the Regional Teacher of the Year. The Regional Teacher of the Year will then be in the running for the State Teacher of the Year.
Anyone had the opportunity to submit a nomination for the School District of Washington and WINGS Teacher of the Year.
SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart and a committee reviewed the nominations and submitted a group of finalists to the WINGS Board, who selected the winner.
“Mrs. Busekrus is truly deserving of this recognition. She cares deeply about our students and goes above and beyond to support them, not just academically, but in every aspect of their lives,” Kephart said. “Mrs. Busekrus builds strong relationships, listens, and shows up for students and staff in ways that make a real difference. We are incredibly proud to recognize Mrs. Busekrus as our School District of Washington Teacher of the Year and are grateful for the difference she makes each day.”
Busekrus found out about the award during an assembly at Marthasville Elementary on Tuesday, April 7. Members of WINGS and SDOW administrators were on hand for the announcement.
“Receiving the award in front of students and staff brought my heart joy and emotion,” Busekrus said. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve students and staff every day.”
“Robyn Busekrus is a cornerstone of our school community, leaving a lasting, positive impact on everyone she meets,” said Marthasville Elementary Principal Kristen Daffron. “With a rare ability to see the inherent value in every individual and find hope in every challenge, she embodies the spirit of an educator. Robyn is deserving of the Teacher of the Year title for countless reasons, but we are most proud of her not just for the work she does, but for the exceptional person she is.”
Busekrus is proud to be part of the Marthasville Elementary staff.
“Marthasville is a wonderful community of great students, families and staff,” she said. “The past several years of being at Marthasville has provided many opportunities to serve and learn alongside the school community.”
Robyn and her husband, Matt, have two sons, Drew and Luke, both of whom are currently students at Washington High School. Drew, a senior, also attends Four Rivers Career Center. Luke is a freshman. Matt is the principal at Clearview Elementary.
“I chose to purse education due to being inspired by teachers in my education,” Busekrus said. “I love to learn, and education was the best fit for myself to pursue as a career due to my love of learning.”
