The Washington High School NJROTC Color Guard carried forward a meaningful and growing tradition on May 1, presenting the colors before the St. Louis Cardinals faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Busch Stadium.
Marking their third consecutive year participating in the pregame ceremony, the unit’s appearance has become an annual highlight - one that serves as a special sendoff for graduating seniors as they conclude their time in the program. What began as a single opportunity has now developed into a cherished tradition that recognizes the dedication and leadership of cadets.
Standing on the field before a crowd of more than 28,000 fans, the Color Guard delivered a precise and professional presentation of the American flag and unit colors.
With uniform restrictions in place prior to this event, the Washington High School NJROTC was granted special approval by the Commander, Naval Service Training Command, to perform that evening - further underscoring the significance of the opportunity.
Their performance reflected the discipline and training of the NJROTC program while proudly representing Washington High School and the local community on one of Major League Baseball’s most prominent stages.
The event also provided an opportunity for families to share the experience. Parents and supporters were able to purchase reserved tickets for $35, allowing them to sit together and enjoy the game. The evening was made even more memorable as the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers following the pregame ceremony.
Beyond the ceremony, the cadets were able to enjoy additional highlights, including meeting the Cardinals’ mascot, Redbird. The chance to take photos and interact with the mascot added a lighthearted and festive element to an already meaningful evening.
For many of the graduating seniors, the experience served as a fitting culmination of their NJROTC journey. The annual appearance at Busch Stadium has evolved into more than just a performance - it is a celebration of years of commitment, leadership, and service. At the same time, it continues to strengthen the bond between the NJROTC unit and the broader community, highlighting the positive impact of student leadership programs.
As the tradition continues to grow, the Washington High School NJROTC Color Guard remains a proud symbol of excellence, discipline, and community spirit-both on and off the field.
