Local students in grades one through six are invited to show their creativity while learning about fire safety through the Washington Fire Department’s annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

The contest is open to students who live in or attend schools served by the Washington Fire Department, including Campbellton Elementary, Washington West Elementary, and South Point Elementary. Homeschooled students also are welcome to participate.

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

Students will compete in four divisions: grades 1-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6 and a special needs division for students in grades 1-6. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in each division.

Posters must be the original work of one child and measure 11 by 17 inches on paper or poster board.

Entries should clearly represent this year’s theme and will be judged primarily on how well they communicate the fire safety message, along with artistic ability.

Each poster must include the student’s name, mailing address, grade, school, county and parent or guardian phone number on the back, along with “Sponsoring agency: Washington Fire Department.”

Posters will be picked up from local schools on Friday, October 9. Students also may drop off entries at Washington Fire Department headquarters, 200 E. 14th St., by 4 p.m. that day. No late entries will be accepted.

Winners will be notified by phone. Winning entries from each division will advance to the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri state contest in spring 2027.
