Elementary Students Participate in Battle of the Books
The Seventh Annual Battle of the Books took place at Washington Middle School on Thursday, April 17.
Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for grades 4-6 in which teams are encouraged to read all 12 Missouri Mark Twain award nominees and then participate in the battle to see which team knows the most about the books.
All of the questions in the competition began with the words “In which book” and the correct answer always was the title.
There were five rounds consisting of 10 questions in each round.
Students in grades 4-6 from elementary buildings in the School District of Washington participated. A total of 15 teams participated.
The first-place team was Book Busters from Washington West Elementary (Charlee Quinn, Penelope Steffens, Samantha Trentmann, Caroline Wallace and Brooklyn Obermark).
The second-place team was Candyland from Washington West Elementary (Taytum Brinkmann, Titus Brinkmann, Molly Buchanan, Lillian McCleave and Octavia Kluesner).
The third-place team was The Mickey Mouse Book House from Clearview Elementary (Chloe Williams, Ada Riegel and Addison Hoberock).
